In the past bankruptcies were listed in the London Gazette and in some instances the local papers of some cities and towns. Currently bankruptcies are only published in the London Gazette and as always on the Insolvency Register.

The Insolvency Register is basically a list of all those that are insolvent in England and Wales, and the register can be found at the government's insolvency service's web site.

The register can be searched by name, and also by company. If you do not not know the court where someone may have been made bankrupt, it is not a problem as you can search all the courts.

The Insolvency Register is not just for people who have gone bankrupt, but also for those that may have entered into an IVA. IVA's are also a form of insolvency, as are DRO's or Debt Relief Orders.
