Hi I've recently been made redundant from my job and i'm currently struggling to repay my unsecured debts that i have in the uk which are approx £800 per month and with no further income for the foreseeable future.
My redundancy pay has basically nearly all gone now with current living costs and paying off family further money I borrowed and I have no possessions in the uk.
It's looking bleak in the uk so i'm now in the process of applying for a visa and will be emigrating abroad to my wife's country which is outside the eu and i'm unsure how to deal with the debts.
The total debts are around £36000 with 4 creditors in the uk. I've read mixed reviews of people leaving the uk and not paying the debts some with success and some without.
I plan to try and set up a company in my new country of choice and hopefully start to build a business but nothing is set in concrete as yet.
My concern is a year or 2 down line the creditors will catch up with me. What would be the best option for someone in my position i've looked a DMP, IVA and Bankruptcy and a little confused which would be the best option to settle the debts.
Can I go on a IVA and Bankrupt once i'm in my new country? what are the implications?
If I leave and don't tell my creditors and they track me down in my new country is there anything they can do if it's a uk debt and the uk doesn't have no agreement with the country?
How would entering an IVA or going bankrupt affect my wife?
Would really appreciate advice on this.
